Purpose: To recognize an individual or organization whose work and accomplishments over an extended period of time have contributed significantly to the progress of international efforts to prevent or overcome physical, mental and/or sensory disability.
Award: A statuette or plaque (to be designed), presented once each four years at the World Congress of Rehabilitation International plus a cash award of (US) $5,000.
Nominations: May be submitted by RI Member Organizations and by international organizations with which RI cooperates. Following the presentation of the first award, nominations may also be submitted by previous recipients of the Presidential Award.
Selection: Will be by a committee composed of the living former Presidents of RI and chaired by the RI President.

RI Secretary General Tomas Lagerwell presents Jan-Ingvar Lindstrom of Sweden with the RI Presidential Award
Purpose: To express RI's gratitude and respect for distinguished accomplishments by individuals and organizations that are in support of the purpose of RI.
Award: A certificate ( to be designed) to be presented by the President of RI or his or her representative whenever the President finds it appropriate.
Nominations: May be submitted to the President of RI by any Member Organization or by any individual associated with a Member Organization.
Selection: By the RI President.
The Fenmore R. Seton Distinguished Volunteer Award was created by Mr. and Mrs. Fenmore R. Seton in 1986 to be presented at each quadrennial World Congress of RI. The first presentation was at the 16th World Congress in Tokyo, September 1988.
Purpose: To recognize a distinguished volunteer who has made a most special and meaningful contribution nationally and/or internationally, to the improvement of the quality of life for persons with disabilities.
Award: Consists of: US$1000 cash award to the recipient; travel funds of up to US$1000 maximum to help cover travel and/or hotel expenses of the recipient to the Award Ceremony; a specially designed and framed Award Certificate.
Nominations: May be submitted by RI member organizations. Individuals who have served on the Executive Committee of RI within one year prior to the Award presentation will not be eligible.
Selection: By a committee composed of the President, the Past President and the Secretary General of RI.
